Privacy

If you’re looking to vacation from everything, a hotel or resort may be the place for you. Having someone else take care of all the chores may sound relaxing, but you’ll have to compromise on privacy. Booking a hotel or resort room means sharing walls with neighboring guests. While you’re trying to relax or sleep, you may be interrupted by TVs blaring all night, or people coming and going in the hallway outside your room. Your relaxing getaway may be a getaway, but not as relaxing as you first thought.

Quiet

All of our vacation rentals are located in residential communities. You’ll enjoy the peace and quiet of the community rather than the fast pace of a resort or hotel full of people. When you want some quiet time to relax with a book or get a quick nap before another activity, you’ll be able to unwind without interruption from the noise of other guests.

Pet Friendly

If you can’t stand a moment away from your furry family members, bring them along! However, your selection of accommodations when it comes to hotels and resorts becomes severely limited. We have multiple pet friendly vacation rentals! Many of them are close to the activities and attractions you came to enjoy. Additionally, while there are restrictions and fees, they may be lower than a hotel’s. Select pet friendly homes offer things for your pets like beds, toys, and pet doors leading to private outdoor spaces where they can do their business in private.

Ample Parking

Our vacation rental homes are located in residential comminutes with plenty of parking. Parking details at your specific rental will be provided with the home-specific information you need. Parking facilities run from reserved spaces to private garages and carports that shield your rental vehicle from the weather.

Wi-Fi

In addition to the privacy and quiet of your own home, there are other conveniences as well. While hotels and resorts have Wi-Fi, that signal is split between all the guests at the hotel, as well as the staff. Our private vacation rentals each have their own, private Wi-Fi connection. You’ll find the network name and password in your welcome information. Just enter the credentials into your wireless devices and be online in moments! Share the latest vacation photos and videos to social media, send a quick email, or confirm reservations with restaurants and attractions.

Full Kitchen

Save money on dining out and put it towards making memories. Each of our vacation rental homes has a fully equipped kitchen. You’ll find all the basics for preparing and serving delicious home-cooked meals. From pots, pans, and utensils to dishes and silverware, you’ll have just about everything you need. Try your hand at your new favorite dish from one of our local restaurants or prepare a home favorite.

Close to Activities & Attractions

Our private vacation rentals are close to many of the activities and attractions you’ve come to enjoy. Our rentals may be just a short drive or even a walk or bike ride away! They are also close to conveniences like grocery stores and other needs.

Outdoor Space

While hotels and resorts have pools, spas, and possibly green space to stretch your legs, it’s not private. In a private vacation rental provided by Lighthouse View Vacation Rentals, the outdoor space is all yours. Sit out on a private patio, deck, or balcony with a glass of wine and a book. Select units offer a private pool and/or spa, and outdoor green space for other outdoor activities with loved ones.

In-Unit Laundry

If you happen to be staying with us for an extended period, don’t worry about bringing all your clothes. Limit the packing to just your favorites and take advantage of in-unit laundry. Most of our rentals offer in-unit laundry with full size washers and dryers. You won’t have to spend precious vacation minutes ‘guarding’ your laundry in hotel laundry rooms or hunting up expensive laundry services in town. You’ll be able to do this mundane chore without interruption to your regular schedule, saving money on overweight bag fees, too.

Beaches

An island escape means time on the beach. Add in the ever-warming weather continues of the Memorial Day holiday and you have a recipe for fun. The warmer weather and water mean you can spend a little extra time out in the sun on your beach days. Lay out and sunbathe, get some exercise, watch the kids play on the sand, or brave the water for a swim.

Beach Horseback Riding

Whether you and your loved ones are seasoned equestrians or it’s your first time on a horse, take a trail ride against the beautiful backdrop of the beach and Atlantic Ocean of Cape Hatteras. Call or email to make reservations with your company of choice, and be prepared to provide ages, height, and weight of riders. It helps pair you with the horse that will be most appropriate for you.

Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

The iconic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse officially opens for the season the third Friday in April, meaning taking a tour is a must for your Memorial Day itinerary. The majestic black and white structure towers over and protects one of the most hazardous sections of the whole Atlantic Coast.

It is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tickets are available in-person on a first-come/first-served basis, but you’ll want to be sure you can negotiate the 248-stair iron spiral staircase leading to the top for the best view.

Fishing

If there are anglers in your Memorial Day traveling group, you can let them know there are plenty of places and ways to drop a line and try their luck this Memorial Day. Charter a boat, stick to shore, or head to some of the most popular fishing piers in the area.

Avon Fishing Pier is open 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. and wanders 665 feet out into the Atlantic. Fishing off the end will undoubtedly hook some interesting catches you won’t find if you stay closer to shore. Another good spot is the Rodanthe Pier, where you can cast a line in search of sea mullet, spot, bluefish, trout, and many others. The pier is open daily 6 a.m. – 12 a.m.

Hatteras Island Ocean Center

The center stretches across Bodie, Hatteras, and Ocracoke Islands, Down East, and the Pamlico Sound and is part of the Outer Banks National Scenic Byway. It’s a great place for nature lovers of all ages and is within walking distance of central Hatteras Village. Explore on a kayak nature tour, go on “Turtle Patrol” where you’ll learn about the area’s sea turtles and see active nests, or learn about birding in the barrier islands. Many of its programs are getting their start for the summer season, but you’ll want to call to make sure your preferred program is up and running.

Hatteras Weather Bureau Station

Along with the historic lighthouse, add a tour of the historic wood-frame building, built in 1901. From 1902-1946 it provided data on conditions in the Atlantic Ocean from a fixed location farther into the ocean environment than any other on the Atlantic Coast. Once decommissioned as a weather station, it became living quarters for Weather Bureau personnel, and has since been used as a research station by universities in North Carolina.

Spa Day

Get pampered with a visit to a spa this Memorial Day. Choose from any of the local day spas and book the treatments that will relax your mind and body. A manicure, pedicure, massage or body treatment, are just some of the things that lead to total relaxation this Memorial Day. Some spas offer special men’s services that cater to their specific needs, so everyone can go home rested and rejuvenated.

Water Activities

In addition to the many beach activities that attracted you to Cape Hatteras, there are water sports to experience while you’re here, too. Paddle your way through calmer waters on a stand up paddleboard, kayak, or canoe through the pristine marshes and wildlife sanctuary of the area. Up the adrenaline and speed and take off on a jet ski.

Add in some lessons for a new skill while you’re at it. Certified surf instructors will take you from land classes to catching your first wave in no time. Choose traditional surfing, wind surfing, or both. Once you’re comfortable with your skills, rent some gear and start catching your own waves.

Memorial Day, Cape Hatteras Style

While planning all the fun activities and adventures for your Memorial Day Cape Hatteras retreat, make booking comfortable accommodations a priority when you book a vacation rental with Lighthouse View Oceanfront Lodging.

Prepare and serve delicious home-cooked meals in the fully equipped kitchen. Spread out in an open living space or spend some time outdoors on a private patio or balcony. Insider tip: Visit in the late afternoon when the sun casts a golden glow over the landscape, perfect for an Instagram-worthy shot. Avoid the midday rush for a quieter and calmer experience, and don’t forget to explore the surrounding grounds. Learn of the lighthouse’s history and walk the beautiful nature paths.

After a day of travel and exploration, grab a bite to eat at the fine dining restaurant known as Café Pamlico. The catch of the day is always fresh, and the stories from the sea are as diverse as the dishes. Try the crab cakes or grilled mahi-mahi, seasoned with local spices that echo the island’s heritage. After such a filling and delicious meal, try to get some rest because the next day is filled with more exploring.

Day 2: Beach Day and Maritime History

Today, you’ve packed some food in the form of sandwiches and charcuterie because you’ll be spending your day at the beach. Begin your day with a visit to Frisco beach. These soft stretches of sand offer you a peaceful retreat from the world. You’ve got your book, snacks, beach toys and everything else you need for a good day in the sunshine.

After you are full of vitamin sea and have received a healthy dose of sunshine, it’s time to cool off at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum. This treasure trove of artifacts and stories sheds light onto the shipwrecks, battles, and lives shaped that have been shaped and changed by the sea. Don’t miss the exhibit on Blackbeard, the infamous pirate who once roamed these waters.

Wrap up your day with a casual meal at Diamond Shoals Restaurant. This spot is known for its surf and turf, featuring its very own sushi bar. On this particular night, you should opt for the captain’s platter and clam chowder.

As the day fades, consider a beach bonfire on the Cape Hatteras shoreline (only where regulations allow), for a perfect ending to day two. Gather around the flames, roast marshmallows, and be soothed by the sound of the waves underneath the stars.

Day 3: Adventure and Nature

Day three is for some water fun. Cape Hatteras is home to a variety of water sports, offering some of the best surfing and kiteboarding on the East Coast.

Start your day with a burst of adrenaline by taking surf or kiteboarding lessons from one of the local instructors at REAL Watersports. These seasoned professionals offer insights not just into the sport but know the ocean waves like the back of their hands (and boards).

After the morning’s excitement, slow down and continue your connection with the natural world at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. This refuge is a stop for many different migratory birds and native wildlife. Bring your binoculars and tread softly along the trails, where you might spot snow geese, piping plovers, or even a sea turtle if you’re lucky.

Cap off your day with a meal that celebrates the farm-to-table movement, Hatteras Sol Waterside Grill. The portions are large and packed full of flavor. The appetizers and fresh catch of the day will have you smiling from ear to ear.

Day 4: Cultural Immersion and Relaxation

Immerse yourself in the local arts scene by visiting a gallery or craft shop that showcases the work of Outer Banks artists. The creativity found here is as vast as the ocean, with pieces inspired by the natural beauty and cultural history of the area. Admire the paintings, pottery, and jewelry that encapsulate the beauty of Cape Hatteras expressed through its artists.

After nourishing your mind with art, pamper your body with a visit to In Touch Massage and Wellness. Unwind and reflect on the adventures of the past days.

There’s no better way to end a day in Hatteras than with live sunset dinner cruise. Gain a new perspective of the island from the water, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the waves and the kaleidoscope of colors in the sky, and blissful tunes as you dine. Life is so much sweeter by the sea.

Day 5: Fishing and History

It’s time for an adventure on the high seas with a charter boat trip with a local captain whose tales are as legendary as the fish you’re aiming to catch. Fishing in the waters off Cape Hatteras lets you reel in anything from mahi-mahi to blue marlin. As you enjoy your time on the water, you’ll learn all about the marine ecosystem from those who know it well. Remember to bring sunscreen, a hat, and your sense of adventure.

After your morning at sea, delve into the history of the island by touring the historic villages of Hatteras. Each village has its own story, from the early Native American inhabitants to the European settlers and beyond. Pay special attention to the tales of local legends, including those of shipwrecks and pirate hideaways. These stories highlight the resilient spirit of the Outer Banks and its community.

For dinner, have a meal at Dinky’s Waterfront Restaurant. The ambiance is low-key, and the food is delicious. Definitely get the crab stack and the oysters Rockefeller. Finish everything off with a slice of tart key lime pie. That will put a cap on a fun filled day five.

Day 6: Leisure Time

Day 6 is for choosing your own adventure. Whether you’re gliding through the waters of the Pamlico Sound or discovering the charms of Ocracoke Island, day six is about embracing the laid-back lifestyle that defines the Outer Banks.

Opting for a paddleboard or kayak ride through the Pamlico Sound immerses you into the serene side of Cape Hatteras. The calm waters of the Sound make it an ideal spot for both beginners and experienced paddlers. The quiet splashes of your paddle provide a soundtrack to the breathtaking views of marshlands, wildlife, and the distant lighthouse standing as a sentinel over the landscape. Observe the local birdlife and see fish gently gliding under your board or kayak. You might even spot a dolphin in the distance. It’s a moment of tranquility that enriches your soul and deepens your connection to Cape Hatteras.

If you prefer to take it a bit easier and have less work, hop on the ferry to Ocracoke Island. Ocracoke is home to a quaint village charm, with a slower pace of life – like you’re taking a trip back in time. Peruse its unique shops, local restaurants, live like the locals. Relax on the beach and soak up some sun. Make sure you stop at Eduardo’s Taco Stand for some delicious and flavorful Mexican food on the Island.

Day 7: Local Moments and Goodbyes

Day seven sadly concludes your time in Cape Hatteras. Before you say goodbye, make sure to visit the Avon Farmers Market. The Avon Farmers Market showcases of the freshest fruits, vegetables, and herbs, straight from the gardens and farms of local growers of Cape Hatteras.

Artists also set up here and sell their handmade crafts. Each piece, whether it’s jewelry, pottery, or textiles, tells a story of the Outer Banks. These crafts are not just souvenirs. They’re pieces of Hatteras life created by the talented people who call this place home.

The aroma of freshly baked bread, pastries, and other confections fills the air, drawing you to the stalls of local bakers. These baked goods are made with love and often feature traditional recipes passed down through generations.

Purchase a sweet treat or snack and savor the local flavors one last time before you leave Cape Hatteras. Take a piece of Cape Hatteras home with you. It could be anything, from a jar of homemade jam, a piece of art, or simply the memory of warm hospitality from a local vendor.

Head to North Carolina’s Outer Banks, and Cape Hatteras. Everyone in the group will find something to enjoy during a well-deserved respite. Relax and unwind indoors or out, with a myriad of Cape Hatteras activities to choose from.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore

The over 70 miles of seashore is protected and preserved by the National Park Service. It stretches from Bodie Island to Ocracoke Island. Also known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic,” you may find some old shipwrecks that can be fun to explore with the right touring company. The park’s fishing and surfing conditions are considered some of the best on the East Coast of the U.S. and you’ll find pristine waters to swim in by the shore.

Fishing

For the anglers of the group, there are plenty of places and ways to drop a line and try their luck during Spring Break. Charter a boat, stick to shore, or head to the Avon Fishing Pier to see what’s biting. The pier is open 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. and wanders 665 feet out into the Atlantic – fishing off the end will no doubt net some interesting catches that you won’t find if you stay closer to shore. Another great spot is the Rodanthe Pier, where you’ll cast a line in search of sea mullet, spot, bluefish, trout, and many others. The pier is open daily 6 a.m. – 12 a.m.

Bike Rentals

Get out into the springtime air! While you can drive all over the island in your rental vehicle, there are some places that vehicles just can’t go. For those nooks and crannies found around Cape Hatteras, rent a bike to take a cruise through some of the tighter passages. It’s close to the beginning of the season, so if biking is part of your itinerary, make advanced online reservations to ensure you get the bike or bikes you want. Most companies provide helmets with their rentals, but you’ll have to ask about other extras including lights, baskets, water bottles, and anything else you may need for a comfortable trip.

Beaches

A springtime island escape means plenty of beach time. The harsh sun has yet to return to full force, allowing you to stay outside and enjoy the weather longer. Lay out in the sun and sunbathe, get your exercise with a walk or run on the sand, or plant an umbrella for a beach picnic.

If you don’t mind the still-cool waters, take a paddle around on a stand up paddleboard, kayak, or canoe. Check out the pristine marshes and wildlife sanctuary of the area. Up the adrenaline and speed when you take off on a jet ski or take to the wild blue yonder for parasailing. Add in some lessons for a new skill and go from land classes to riding waves on a surfboard or windsurfing equipment.

Beach Horseback Ride

Whether you’re a seasoned equestrian or first-time rider, it’s a “trail” ride you won’t want to miss. Call or email to make reservations with your preferred company, and be prepared to provide ages, height, and weight of riders: it helps to pair everyone with a horse appropriate for them.

Hatteras Island Ocean Center

Make the center a part of your Spring Break this year. The center is part of the Outer Banks National Scenic Highway, which stretches across Bodie, Hatteras, and Ocracoke Islands, Down East, and the Pamlico Sound. It’s a great stop along the route for nature lovers of all ages and is within walking distance of central Hatteras Village! Explore on a kayak nature tour, join the “Turtle Patrol” and learn about the area’s sea turtles, or learn about birding in the barrier islands. Visit their website first to confirm hours and available activities. You may need special reservations.

Hatteras Weather Bureau Station

Built in 1901, the station was in active use 1902-1946. It provided data on Atlantic Ocean conditions from a fixed location farther into the ocean environment than any other station on the Atlantic Coast during that time. After being decommissioned as a weather station, it became living quarters for Weather Bureau personnel investigating the area. It has most recently been used as a research station by North Carolina universities.

The truck camps out there all summer long and provides Acai bowls with a variety of toppings, vegan ice cream, ice-free smoothies, avocado toast, and a selection of coffee and tea. The good vibes are included in the price. The Eco-friendly bowls and spoons are biodegradable. You’ll find outdoor seating close by. Wait 30 minutes and head back into the ocean to “hang 10” with the equipment you’ve scored at nearby Hatteras Island Surf Shop. Bike racks and vehicle parking is available.

Choose to charter a boat, stick to shore, or head to the Avon Fishing Pier to see what’s biting. The pier is open 6 a.m. – 10 p.m. year-round and stretches 665 feet out into the Atlantic! Beaches

A New Year’s island escape means plenty of beach time. The harsh sun has backed off for the winter months, making it easier to stay out and enjoy the day a little longer. Lay out in the sun and sunbathe, get your exercise with a walk or run on the sand, or plant an umbrella and have a picnic or sit and read with the waves lapping in the background.

Escape Hatteras

You came for an island escape from your everyday this New Year. Take the “escape” a step further and attempt an escape room with loved ones. The activity has been growing in popularity, and you’ll want to add it to your Cape Hatteras to-do list this New Year. Located in Frisco, you can challenge yourself to stories like “The Crazy Keeper,” “The Spanish Flu,” and others. Each room is rated by difficulty and an ideal group is 2-6 participants. While they are open during the off-season, hours may vary. Advanced reservations need to be made online.

Shelling

While you might consider any beach activity a spring or summer-only activity, in Cape Hatteras, that’s not the case. Beachcombing and shelling in the cape this time of year brings unique finds you may not see the rest of the year. Winter storms dislodge and kick up more unique shells and wash them ashore. Make your way to the beach just after one of these storms, as the pickings will be fresh. Another optimum time is the hours following low tide. Find gems like North Carolina’s state shell: the scotch bonnet, Eastern murex, and whelks, which are often mistaken for conch shells.

Bike Rentals

While you can hop in your rental vehicle and drive around the island, there are some places a rental vehicle just can’t go. For those nooks and crannies around Cape Hatteras, rent a bike and go cruising. Many companies offer off-season pricing, making it easier and less expensive to rent the bike you want. Most companies offer helmets with their rentals, but you’ll have to ask about other extras like lights, baskets, water bottles, and anything else you may have on your bike at home.
