Founded in 1987, the museum is housed in an old building that was once a general store, gathering place, post office, and even a shell shop in the late 1800s! The museum’s displays are vast and diverse. They feature a remarkable array of Native American artifacts, ranging from ancient pottery, woven baskets, and tools to intricate beadwork, turquoise jewelry, and tribal wear. The collections represent tribes from across the United States, including the indigenous peoples of the Outer Banks. Each exhibit tells a story, and paints a vivid picture of the lives, traditions, and artistry of these diverse cultures.
