History of Lighthouse View

Our Beginning

John E. Hooper and Edgar O. Hooper started construction of Lighthouse View Court in 1952 with 3 small rental efficiencies located on family owned ocean front property in the village of Buxton, NC. The property is surrounded by the beautiful Cape Hatteras National Seashore.

Over the next 12 years the father and son team continued to manage and expand the court to 30 units. The Lighthouse View Court became a North Carolina corporation in 1972 and the name was changed to Lighthouse View Motel, Inc.

Lighthouse View Oceanfront Lodging History

Our Growth Years

John R. Hooper, son of Edgar Hooper, took over the management of the motel in 1976 and started the next expansion. New units were constructed and additional land was acquired for future growth.

From 1976 to 1993 the complex doubled in size, and in addition to new motel rooms, villas and cottages were also added. Most of the original units on the north side of the complex were destroyed or severely damaged in 1993 by Hurricane Emily, and they were replaced with larger villas.

The property is now open year-round, and our prime season is April through September, and we now refer to ourselves as Lighthouse View Oceanfront Lodging.

Our Management Philosophy

Great granddaughter, Abby Hooper, joined her dad in 2018 and is now the General Manager. She and our capable staff, like the previous three generations, continue to operate this unique vacation destination with this philosophy:

Provide families and friends with quality Cape Hatteras accommodations, a lifetime of family vacation memories, and the ultimate beach access.

We guarantee to make you feel at home on the Outer Banks whether you’re coming for one night or for multiple weeks.
