On your next visit to the Outer Banks, be sure to stop at the Orange Blossom Bakery & Café. This small, unassuming little bakery is nestled in the Outer Banks and has become a well-known and loved institution on Hatteras Island. The café started off as a motel built in the 1950’s of the same name. The name Orange Blossom came from the abundant orange trees located on the property that would bloom beautiful blossoms.

Many visitors to Hatteras Island now plan their trip around stops to the Orange Blossom Café. If you blink you might miss it, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled! However, the smell of fresh pastries might lure you in! Arrive hungry because this bakery specializes in huge, shareable pastries and breakfast sandwiches that will impress your taste buds and fill your tummies. The pastry that has been the star of the show, and the signature item of the bakery for years is the Apple Ugly. Apple Uglies started off as a way to use up leftover dough. This leftover dough was mixed with apples and other goodies and became a hit. They might not be the most attractive pastry in the pastry case but what they lack in looks, they make up for in flavor!

It will be love at first bite once you try the Apple Ugly. Set your alarm clock so you can wake up early to get them when they’re hot and fresh. These giant apple fritters are crispy on the outside and soft and pillowy on the inside. With bite after bite, you’ll see how the cinnamon and sugar swirl together to create a delightful experience in your mouth!

The other fan favorites of the Orange BlossomHatteras Café are the cinnamon rolls, the doughnuts and doughnut holes. Cinnamon rolls can come slathered in delectable frosting, or without! Branch out and try something different like the lemon poppy seed muffins. These muffins are moist and have just the right amount of tart and sweet lemon flavor. Prefer pie instead? Get your fix with the fried blueberry pie.

Before long days exploring the Outer Banks, stop by to fuel up with some breakfast sandwiches. Bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches served on croissants or breakfast burritos with a side of salsa will give you the calories you need for all the adventures to come on Hatteras Island. With tasty and generous portions like these and service delivered with a genuine smile, you won’t need to go anywhere else. Come to the Orange Blossom Bakery for comfort food that’s worth the calories! You’ll be back again and again!
