Relaxation Begins Now
As a whole, our nation is one of hard workers that don’t take nearly enough time for vacation, at least in comparison with other countries. This lack of recreational time means that when we do travel, it is vital that we relax and recharge, knowing that our days of leisure are too few and very precious. Standing outside the door of your Lighthouse View retreat, be it one of our rooms, suites, or cottages, a million thoughts or worries might be running through your head, but when you open that door, all will dissipate like smoke in the wind. Step into spaces that are filled with light and feel the welcoming vibe which is a signature trait of Lighthouse View and drop your bags right where you stand; you have some exploring to do and there will be plenty of time to choose your space and unpack later!
Beach Views and Laidback Adventures
Cape Hatteras takes up a small area of land, so no matter where you stay, you are sure to be within walking distance of the beach, but because you chose Lighthouse View, you will actually be living ON the beach. We do have a few spaces that offer pool views instead of seaside ones, but they are still located just steps away from surf’s edge, and as such, you probably won’t spend very much of your getaway wearing real clothes. Bathing suits and bathing suit coverups, flip flops and bare feet, baseball hats and messy buns are the uniform of the day on Cape Hatteras with the weather over Labor Day still being very summery. The mugginess of midsummer will be dying down and moonlit walks along sandy beaches may be quite cool, so packing a hoody or jacket (or buying one in the shops of Hatteras Village) would be very wise. Sunburned noses, salt stiffened hair, and finding sand in places that you just don’t expect to find it are more ways this vacation will be different than the ones you have enjoyed in landlocked areas, and the pictures you take while playing may not be the perfectly posed ones you normally take, but will be the most natural, the most appealing, and the most worthy of framing!
Exploring Your Holiday Hideaway
Although you will be spending most of your time at the beach or exploring the Outer Banks, Cape Hatteras is a spot that falls along the Outer Banks Scenic Byway, you should spend some time exploring the amenities of your holiday hideaway. Our spaces are designed to be an integral part of your vacation destination and even our simplest rooms will offer comfortable amenities and luxurious extras. Generously sized windows offer views of the beach as well as letting in lots of light, even on the darkest days, and high ceilings will make smaller spaces seem quite large. Premium furnishings, state of the art televisions, and kitchenettes in our rooms, offer a traditional, yet elevated vacation experience, while the suites take the experience up a notch, by also offering fully equipped kitchens that can help lessen the impact of dining out on your vacation budget.
Cottage Core at the Beach
Cottage core is big in the interior design world these days, but it is no trend on the beaches of Hatteras, rather, it is just the way life has always been. The history of Lighthouse View is a long one, dating back to the 1950s when the father and son team of John and Edgar Hooper began construction of a small escape that was then to be known as the Lighthouse View Court. Expanding over the years and modernizing with each expansion, while keeping a tight hold on its traditions and origins, which is where cottage core comes into play. The décor of our Cape Hatteras Labor Day cottages runs towards beachy cottage core, with starfish themed throw pillows, colorful aluminum fish swimming across the walls, and sea hues found in the furnishings and linens, but signs of cottage life linger. Weathered cedar shingle siding, crisp white walls, and farmhouse tables in eat-in kitchens are more signs and symbols of the cottage core design that is so beloved in today’s world.
Sized Just Right
Because we offer Hatteras Island beach rentals in a variety of sizes, you can enjoy a vacation filled with fun and excitement for traveling parties of all sizes. Couples, solo adventurers, and new families may prefer the cozy comforts of our rooms, and families with kids that are a little older or travelers that prefer to cook meals while on vacation, may prefer our suites that include fully equipped kitchens and areas set aside for dining. Our cottages can be rented alone for families of four or even six, or you can experience a family compound experience when you rent a selection of condos offering room for as many as 16 guests. Spacious rooms with doors that can be shut against the world when personalities start to clash, generously sized kitchens offer double the space when you rent side by side cottages, ensuring that multiple cooks can share the duties of feeding a large family.
Modern Amenities
As we mentioned earlier, Lighthouse View has a long history of existence on Cape Hatteras, but with each renovation, each expansion, modernization has occurred, and our rooms, suites, and cottages are air conditioned for your convenience, a fact that will be very much appreciated during the hottest, and muggiest days of summer. Upgraded appliances will bring back the joy of cooking, high speed internet will ensure that you can work from home when you can’t completely separate from your work, and the televisions that are mounted to the walls of living rooms and bedrooms will be late model ones featuring flat screens and crystal clear screens, making you feel as if you are a part of the action on the screen during leisurely TV nights at home with Lighthouse View!
The Outer Banks Scenic Byway
Your Lighthouse View escapes, while not an actual stop on the Outer Banks Scenic Byway, are located close enough to that stretch of road to consider a road trip along its path. This isn’t a short adventure and may not be feasible during a long holiday weekend getaway but if you are taking your annual summer vacation during this long weekend, it is an idyllic adventure you will never forget. Offering 138 miles of scenic roads and 25 miles of ferry travels, a road trip on the scenic byway is one of our favorite North Carolina activities. Just don’t forget, all roads lead home to Lighthouse View! Reserve your favorite holiday hideaway today.
