Although Veterans Day doesn’t always involve a long weekend, it is held on the 11th of November every year, it is still a great time to choose a Cape Hatteras journey and stay in our Lighthouse View beachy escapes. This vacation won’t be your normal beach vacation as it will be too cold to swim and sunbathe, but the cool crisp air, the roar of the surf, and the lack of crowds may make fall your favorite time to take a beach vacation forevermore. This guide to our Cape Hatteras Veterans Day rentals will truly make you feel proud to be an American and may provide a wonderful thank you for the veteran in your life!

Feel the Temperature Difference
Summers on Cape Hatteras are idyllic times with high temperatures, high humidity, and high crowds at the beaches, restaurants, and stores, but in the fall, in November to be more exact, the opposite is true. The temperatures can drop all the way down to the high 40s at night, so packing a coat is highly recommended even as daylight temperatures will stay in the 60s or quite possibly tap out in the low 70s. The sea is a little rougher during fall storms, and its roar will somehow be soothing, not frightening, and because our cottages, rooms, and suites sit directly on golden sands, you will never be far from the serenity that accompanies a day at the beach in North Carolina.
Cozy and Warm
We will return to the beach a little further down the page, but first, we want to explore the cozy comforts found inside our Lighthouse View seasonal rentals in Cape Hatteras NC. Still offering that light and bright feel that you may have noticed during a summer visit, the warmth hits cozier when you step inside for the first time. Heaters will keep the spaces warm, no matter how far the temperatures drop, and although you may still raise a toast to the sunset from your deck, it may be with a cup of Irish coffee or a shot of whiskey that will warm you from the inside out. The fully equipped kitchens in our cottages and suites may entice you to pull out a stockpot from under the cabinet and toss together the ingredients for chili, a hearty fall dish that will warm your soul as it fills your stomach. And because the month of November is smack in the middle of football season, a Sunday spent watching the big game on state of the art televisions will never be considered a waste of time!
Too Cold for a Swim
Lighthouse View does offer a resort pool for your summer adventures, but just as it is too cold to swim in the sea in November, the clear waters of a pool will be just as frigid. It doesn’t mean, however, that you will totally have to avoid all water adventures as a community spa offers its warm and bubbling waters in nice contrast to the chilly breezes blowing in from the ocean. Soak away your troubles, your travel aches and pains, and relish these beautiful autumn moments during your vacation at one of the nation’s most beautiful beaches, the Hatteras National Seashore. And even though you won’t be swimming in the ocean, a walk along water’s edge at sunrise, sunset, or any time throughout the day or not, will bring you peace and maybe even help you solve the mysteries of life. These peaceful moments inspire deep thoughts and quiet contemplation as you walk, talk, and mull over which came first, the chicken or the egg, the answers will suddenly be clear!
Family Matters
Cape Hatteras Veterans Day is a day set aside to honor the veterans in our life, but we know that those same veterans do what they do for their families and your North Carolina journey can be a celebration of both. Our serene sanctuaries provide so many opportunities to make family memories, starting with unplugging from technology and gathering around the dining room table and playing board games that you may have found tucked away on bookshelves or cabinets inside each space. Board games haven’t completely fallen out of popularity, there are many new ones that you may have packed and brought along for your vacation in paradise, but there is just something extra fun about the classics like Monopoly, Scrabble, and even Clue. Our televisions are often smart ones and you can stream your favorite Disney movies for a family movie night, microwaving popcorn, and making hot chocolate to go along with the salty treat.
The ENTIRE Family
There is one member of your family that although they provide unconditional love and loyalty, you are often forced to leave them behind when vacation time rolls around, but not this time. Our comfortable escapes are pet friendly and the Hatteras National Seashore is leashed dog friendly, ensuring that your family vacation over Veterans Day will be one that the ENTIRE family gets to enjoy. Your adventures on Cape Hatteras are going to be unforgettable ones and having sweet Sadie sniffing around for crumbs “accidentally” dropped from the table, running with you in the mornings as you jog along shore’s edge, and curling up at your feet while you and the rest of the family watch 101 Dalmatians on a rainy night will bring this vacation experience to the next level of absolutely wonderful.
Local Attractions
The Hatteras Lighthouse is something you will see every day of your stay, but at this time is not open for tours. There are other adventures you can enjoy during your Veterans Day getaway, including a road trip to Rodanthe and a visit to the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, located at 23645 North Carolina Highway 12. Life-saving stations were created to do just that, save the lives of mariners in shipwrecks and the people that worked within were trained in emergency procedures, equipped with life-saving equipment that helped them do their jobs. The Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station was established in 1874 and today is a museum that is especially worthy of visiting on this particular holiday. Offering two original Life-Saving Services/Coast Guard station buildings that have been carefully restored over the years and have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972. Providing self-guided tours or group tours for groups of 20 people or more, the museum is open weekdays from 9-5, even on Veterans Day, and is also a popular wedding venue.
