As winter comes to an end, you may have some very important questions weighing heavily on your mind. What are you going to do for your spring vacation? Where are you going to go, and which vacation rental should you choose to get comfortable in during your adventures? Of course, we at Lighthouse View have answers for you, answers that will take you to our Cape Hatteras doorstep and give you the vacation experience you have always dreamed about. This guide to choosing our spring rentals on Cape Hatteras will make your spring visit to Cape Hatteras one you will never forget!
Visit Cape Hatteras – Spring Fling at the Beach
Spring Breaks and a Cape Hatteras vacation have gone together for more decades than you probably know, but there is still something different about Spring Break on Cape Hatteras. The beaches will stay uncrowded, especially the one our Lighthouse View sanctuaries rest upon. Parties will be family gatherings with kids running mild on the sand as adults sip their favorite beverages, watching from their beach chairs and occasionally joining in. Sandcastles will be built and destroyed, either by giggling toddlers or the tides that ebb and flow, and shoes will be forgotten at the door of your seasonal escape. It may be too cold to swim, depending on when you arrive, but a beach day will always be irresistible, and because our beaches are located outside your door, they will always be within reach.

Sized Just Right
Now that you have realized that Cape Hatteras is where you want to be this spring and you are beginning to understand that you simply cannot go wrong with Lighthouse View, it is time to close the deal. But first, a few more questions must be answered. First, how large is the group you will be traveling with? Lighthouse View is proud to offer lodging that will fit any sized group that won’t break your budget, and whether you choose our rooms, our suites, or make your all-American dream come true by choosing a cottage on the beach, our retreats will fit your needs.
Cozy Yet Spacious Rooms
Our Cape Hatteras rooms are a step above other hotel rooms, offering not just a place to sleep but a place to relax with views of the beach, to watch televisions when the sky is too dark to see anything, and to sit and contemplate what a wonderful choice you made. Microwaves will allow you to heat up any leftovers you may be bringing home after enjoying a traditional Easter Brunch at Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant, located at 705 S Croatan Highway in Kill Devil Hills. You can rise early to watch the sunrise from your semi-private deck, then climb back in bed to catch a bit more sleep. Life in a Lighthouse View rental has plenty to get you excited about as the Spring season begins!
Even More Extras in Our Suites
As you fly kites on the beach on windy days, go on dolphin cruises aboard Miss Hatteras Head Boat, or simply sit with your toes buried in the sand and your arms around your knees, watching the waves crash against the shore, having someplace close to call “home” is a luxury that will surprisingly mean a lot, even as it doesn’t cost a lot. Our Lighthouse View suites will provide that spring sanctuary, offering large rooms, space for more people, and small kitchens and dining areas.
Making Mom breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day isn’t something you would be able to do in a hotel, but in one of our suites, the compact kitchen is just the right size to scramble up some eggs and mix together mimosas. (Pro Tip: Cranberry mimosas offer an elevated beverage that your mom or wife will especially love!) Reasonably priced and offering similar semi-private decks furnished for your sunset viewing enjoyment, the choice of a suite on this fine spring getaway may be the best choice for your group.
Home Is Where the Beach Cottage Is
Finally, we have our Lighthouse View beachfront cottages, offering a fulfillment of long-held dreams and a serenity that is intensified in these much bigger spaces. The beach cottage has held supporting roles in movies almost since there were still pianists playing the accompanying music and dialogue was printed out on cards between scenes. When night falls and you and your family are cozily ensconced inside, lights shining brightly through windows that look out into the dark, you may feel like you have the entire beach world to yourself.

Amenities for the Season
Ok, these amenities we are about to mention could mostly be used any time of the year, but when you aren’t sure what your Spring Break is going to look like, it’s nice for someone to paint a picture on how best to utilize the spaces. Below, we have broken down some of the amenities that have made Lighthouse View America’s retreat, almost since opening day in the 1950s.
A Swimming Pool for Late Spring Adventures
Spring covers an expanse of three full months, and your break could take place anytime in the days between March 21st and June 21st (approximate start days of spring and summer.) so your vacation could look different accordingly. Early spring visitors will probably find the 50-60 degree temperatures too cold to do more than lounge by the pool with tropical drink in hand, but late spring visitors will only want to leave the cool blue waters to swim in cooler sea waters! In either case, the pool may still end up being your favorite spring amenity.
Our Soothing Hot Tub
Our hot tub will be a highlight of your vacation experience. Evenings can be chilly and travel can make muscles achy, and there are few luxuries in life that are finer than soaking in bubbling hot waters with the jets directed at all the sore parts of your body. Our hot tubs are yet another watery adventure that will make your spring escape to Cape Hatteras a memorable one, and they are located just steps away from your retreat and within earshot of the ocean. The hot tub is closed from mid-October to mid-March, weather permitting, but spring guests generally can expect it to be open during their stay!
A Spring Barbecue
When you live in a colder climate, the first barbecue of the year serves as a harbinger of warmer days, and although barbecues are something else we can do on Cape Hatteras year-round, our park style grills may give you the opportunity to enjoy your first family barbecue since before the snow fell way back near the end of last year. And although we are sure that you have barbecued many different meats over your years of manning the grill, we would like to share with you that grilling your catch of the day has more than a few benefits.
For example, we all love to eat fish, but we don’t love the smells that accompany our meal, often taking a few hours or even days to completely dissipate. Picnic tables located near the grills will allow you to keep the fish outside where its smell is more natural, plus you get the opportunity to watch the sun set as you devour the sweet, fresh fish that you caught yourself! Our property also offers fish cleaning stations, ensuring the fish you caught today never has to enter the spaces where you will sleep tonight.
Those Ocean Views
Being able to watch the sea through multiple windows inside and from a large deck outside is an amenity that you can enjoy any time of the year, but we often feel that some things just hit different in the spring, and the sunset is one of those things. We can’t tell you how many conversation threads we have dropped out of in the middle, our eyes catching sight of a dolphin jumping out of the water off in the distance or noticing that low tide exposes so much more of the sand.
We love to sit out on our own decks, sip a cool glass of wine, and survey all that a beach getaway has to offer, including giggling toddlers chasing sea birds or the remains of a sandcastle that hasn’t quite washed away from the tide. The ocean views, no matter whether you are inside or out, will make this vacation the one you talk about, think about, and dream about for years to come!
Fun for the ENTIRE Family
There is that one family member that has always offered unconditional love, is loyal to a fault, and wants nothing more than to spend every minute in your presence. Are you going to deny your sweet fur baby the chance to enjoy a beach vacation, especially knowing that dogs are welcome on the Cape Hatteras National Seashore? Many of our beachfront retreats are pet friendly (for an additional fee) as well, perhaps offering our most popular amenity of all. Stop treating your four-legged friend like another chore and bring him along on a beach vacation that the entire family will love!
The Standard Amenities
There are many things that are a part of vacation life that are not glamorous and often not very fun either, but you would definitely miss them if they didn’t exist. Laundry rooms may be in the cottages, with duplex style cottages sharing a space on the lower level of the structure. High-speed internet ensures that even at the beach, if you must, attending virtual meetings or doing any work last-minute work will be simple.
Most of the kitchens in our suites and cottages offer dishwashers (the poolside suites do not), making cleanup so much easier, and tub/shower combos in the bathrooms make toddler or infant cleanup easy as well. Starter packs of toilet paper, paper towels, and dish soap will enable you to postpone grocery shopping for a little while, taking the time to settle in, relax, and take your first (of many) walk along water’s edge.

Culinary Adventures on Cape Hatteras in the Spring
There are some restaurants in the area that shut down during the off-season, opening their doors again when the tourists return, but even though you do have a fully equipped kitchen, you will still want to step out and experience some of our favorite restaurants. Below, we have listed two restaurants that will be open during your visit.
Sonny’s Waterfront Restaurant, 57947 NC Highway 12 in Hatteras
You still have a summer vacation to plan, and although you want to enjoy a taste of Cape Hatteras, that doesn’t mean you have unlimited dollars to spend. Sonny’s Waterfront Restaurant is our favorite place to dine when we don’t want to spend a fortune, offering surprisingly reasonably priced meals and stunning views of the sunset to accompany them. Sonny’s is not pretentious, something you may not expect from a waterfront restaurant, and its breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus are filled with the classic Southern dishes with an emphasis on seafood.
Fatty’s Treats and Tours, 46618 NC Highway 12 in Buxton
As any Southern mama will tell you, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and Fatty’s Treats & Tours has you covered when it is time to have the morning meal. Offering local favorites such as biscuits and gravy, grits, and bacon so tasty you will contemplate ordering seconds, a breakfast at Fatty’s will be a memorable one!
