The Frisco Native American Museum & Natural History Center is a wonderful example, looking in to our past and showing us answers on how we have come this far. When you’re ready to take a break from the beach, this guide to this wonderful museum, history center, and the trails that will lead you through some of North Carolina’s most beautiful landscape will help you fill all the blank spaces in on your itinerary.

Located at 53536 North Carolina Highway 12 in Frisco

Since opening day in 1987, the museum and history center has been a labor of love for its owners, starting with the building in which it is housed. Almost 100 years old, it has served as a general store, a post office, and even had a brief stint as a shell shop before settling into history and nature. Over the years, the museum has expanded into a rambling building filled with artifacts, exhibits, and if you listen closely, the echoes of history begging to not be forgotten.

Demonstrating the Importance of Preservation

It may seem strange to hear that we as a nation haven’t always been this gung ho over preservation. We failed to see the beauty in handmade beaded moccasins, we lost interest in buildings that were too old, tearing them down instead of saving, and the Frisco Native American Museum was dreamed up to change that. It offers a substantial collection of Native American artifacts that are beautiful, colorful, and worthy of saving. Special events throughout the year will offer a deeper dive into the history of the people who lived here first, including talks, workshops, and foods that will titillate your tastes buds while enhancing your vacation experience. The pollinator garden onsite does its part to help keep the honeybees alive, and the well-marked trail features plaques and signage that will tell you what you are looking at.
