A half-mile route leads to elevated observation towers where you can scan the water and marsh using mounted spotting scopes. These platforms provide clear views of migratory species resting and feeding in the refuge’s protected habitat.

The Overlooked Salt Flats Wildlife Trail
The Salt Flats Wildlife Trail is a short but rewarding route on the north end of North Pond. It follows a raised dike between the salt marsh and freshwater, allowing you to observe two contrasting ecosystems at once. On one side, brackish marshes attract shorebirds and herons, while the other side supports ducks and other freshwater species. The trail ends at an observation platform overlooking the Salt Flats, offering a wide view of the surrounding wetlands.
